Rock Drummer Wanted

We are an all-original power trio looking for a drummer. We play music that combines the power of AC/DC and Pearl Jam with the sing along hooks of Wham and Counting Crows and the storytelling of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. Seriously, take five minutes to listen to at least the first minute of each of our songs and you'll see what I mean.

We are looking for a drummer who can keep great time and play relatively simple beats with some flash here and there. We are around 40 years old and look young and feel young and act young. You should be the same.

We will play twice per week, either rehearsing or playing live. We set a date and time for rehearsals and we show up on time and prepared. No excuses.

We give you CDs of the songs you need to learn. Just get the groove of the songs with the changes and keep good time, are you're all set. We just ask that you keep it simple.

We have a 24/7 rehearsal space downtown. I pay 100% of the rent. When we start playing out, you can have $100 per night or 1/3 of the take, whichever is greater. We have CDs to sell too. We'll make sure you get paid.

We have many, many songs ready to go. If you can learn them, we can play out right away. Please take a listen to the tunes. If you like them, I'll tell you which three to learn and then we'll get together.

We have a disk coming out the first week of December and are ready to play. Let's do it!

Working cover band seeks skilled and experienced keyboardist, backup vocals a+.

We are a 5 piece group (plus keys) fronted by an engaging and entertaining male vocalist (future plans include potentially adding a female vocalist) playing r&b, rock, reggae, blues, soul & funk covers, and have been performing around town (bars & private gigs) 2-4 gigs a month since 2006. You would replace our recently departed keyboardist.

You should be mature, responsible, not in financial despair, have good gear and reliable transportation.

Great rehearsal space in western 'burbs, keyboards provided - must be willing to rehearse once a month at a minimum.

♫ CLASSICAL GUITAR ♫ (Finding a Competent Teacher)

posted: November 15, 2009, 07:21 AM

More about me: http://www.tiny9.com/u/5087

You can't judge a teacher's competence solely on their playing. Many fine players are often poor teachers; teaching and performing require different skills. You can't judge a teacher's competence solely on their education. Music education degrees place an emphasis away from the primary instrument, helping to prepare for general k-12 classroom teaching. While music performance degrees place an emphasis on the primary instrument, this emphasis is on developing the individual's own skills with little or no attention given to pedagogy. Too often, any study of pedagogy is nothing more than a generic survey. Almost all college and university students are not trained how to teach, even at the graduate level. In spite of having little or no training, almost all classical guitarists must teach, regardless of their skills or passions, in order to earn a living. This statement can easily be confirmed by merely asking any professor of guitar at a reputable college or university.

Guitar teachers are not licensed and anyone who chooses to “set up shop is free to do so. How can a student new to music or the guitar confidently evaluate and judge a teacher? In short, a competent teacher shows their students how to play music with security and confidence, while continually emphasizing the importance of habits in practice. A Student learns to use their mind and body efficiently when under the guidance of a competent teacher. A student works on music that is neither too easy nor difficult and learns to play that music at a near professional level when under the guidance of a competent teacher.

Whether you are a rank beginner or an advanced student, if you want to learn to play the guitar, then I am interested in meeting with you. I haven't merely studied with some of the greatest players, but I have also studied with pioneers and leaders in guitar pedagogy. I like to meet potential students for an initial interview. There is no money involved in the evaluation process. It is a chance for us to talk, learn about one another, and have a long trial lesson.

In closing, many poor teachers can learn to say the right things, or even develop the superficial elements of competent guitar instruction. Fortunately, the careful and alert student who continues to evaluate their teacher soon realizes when there is a problem. Below are some questions for you to consider. If you are a student of the guitar, I urge you to make a copy of the questions below and consider them from time to time:

Do you fully understand that it isn't that you practice or what you practice? Rather, it is how you practice. Is this the focus of your current lessons?

Does your teacher continually show you how to practice efficiently and effectively or do they merely tell you what to practice?

Does your teacher continually help you to perform with confidence, being free from major errors, or are you told “just keep practicing and it will get better?

Is your teacher's studio the size of a broom closet?

Did you know that anyone can call themselves a guitar instructor and give lessons?

What does your teacher have to say about habits and their importance to the process of practicing?

Have you been misinformed, thinking that classical guitar study is about studying classical music?

Have you considered that there is more to finding the right teacher than “genres, prices, and locations?

Does your teacher heavily rely on demonstration, having you only learn through imitation?

Does your teacher frequently try to impress you with their great playing instead of helping you with your own playing?

What have you learned from your teacher about using visualisation?

If you are in a band, why are you not the band leader? Why does your band have to rehearse so much? Don't you understand that group rehearsal is merely an extension of those practice techniques your competent teacher regularly cultivates and reinforces in your lessons?

Are you aware that learning to play well is easy, and learning to play poorly requires more work? Have you paradoxically chosen to work harder because you have more modest goals?

Are you aware that it is far more difficult to undo poor habits than to first learn without them?

Do you think your teacher must be good just because they are a great performer? Or just because they have a prestigious degree?

If a five year old child can learn to play well, shouldn't you?

Does your teacher ever say you aren't working hard enough when you know that you are already working hard?

Do you feel like you waste time in the practice chair, and what is your teacher doing about it?

Is your tone excellent? Are you aware that tone production is one of the most basic concepts taught to a rank beginner?

Do you stick with your teacher, in spite of your doubts, just because he is a nice guy?

What have you learned from your teacher about cycling?

Is your lessons often distracting because of the outside noises?

Does your teacher often berate advanced players and professionals? What might they think of you!?

Do you feel like you are herded like cattle in and out of your teacher's studio?

If you are trying, but are still not understanding or having success, whose fault is it?

Do you feel that when you play for others, it usually isn't as good as when you are alone?

What have you learned from your teacher about excess tension?

Just exactly what do you think Stephen Sondheim's “Putting It Together is about?

Without thought, do you readily and quickly know where your flexor and extensor tendons are within the context of guitar playing?

Does your teacher provide good answers to your questions, or do they often miss the point of your questions?

What is your teacher continually doing to minimize excess tension in your playing?

Is the material your teacher gives you too challenging, leaving you confused?

Does your teacher innocently treat you like an idiot?

With passion and excitement, might your teacher want to frame this advertisement while saying “this is exactly what I am always talking about! If not, do you think they might make a negative comment?

Does your teacher offer you a month's worth of free lessons in a teacher referral program?

Does your teacher introduce you to the local guitar community, or are they afraid they might lose you as a student?

Do you get the informative local society newsletters, or is your teacher one of the many that doesn't want the competition?

Are you given the opportunity to attend workshops and master classes when world class artists are frequently in town?

Does your teacher have at least four performance classes every year giving you the opportunity to share your music with others?

Does your teacher have a cookout once a year for you and your family, inviting special guests to perform, give workshops and master classes?

Lastly, do you still look forward to your lessons?

ATTENTION. My band rented a room at the Beat Suites until ALL our equipment was stolen from our space in July. We lost EVERYTHING. We told management about the defective lock on the outside door three times and it was only fixed the day after the break-in. The "security system" in the rooms does nothing except beep at any intruder. It has no connection to any outside system. As for the "secure doors", the people who stole our gear had no problem kicking them in. We just received our security deposit in the mail last week. They have done NOTHING to help us get our stuff back or replace it. It is impossible to get a hold of management and even if you leave a message they don't call back. Spread the word. I wouldn't want it to happen to any other band.

School of Rock is looking for guitar and keys instructors

The Paul Green School of Rock is looking for teachers and subs at our St. Paul and Eden Prairie locations.
We are currently interviewing for Guitar and keyboard instructors.

Here’s a little bit about what we do:
We are an after school program that is open Mon-Thursday 3-8:30 and Saturday 10-5p.m.
Each student gets a 45 minute one on one lesson with an instructor for their instrument of choice. The student also gets a 3 hour rehearsal each week for a show that they are picked to be on.

Currently we are running 8 shows:

Advanced Beatles
Arena Rock
80’s Prom
Led Zeppelin
The Rolling Stones
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Funk and Reggae
Classic Guitar Rock

At the end of 4 months of rehearsals the kids will play these shows at a real rock venue in front of hundreds of people.

There are no room rental fees. We find the students for you and you never have to worry about billing. If your student doesn’t show up, you still will get paid for your time. We offer a 2 hour minimum of hours. Meaning, if we only book you one student for 45 minutes, you will get paid for 2 hours.

We have food available for the teachers here also.

This is a very fun environment to work in. You get a big pay off at the end of the 4 months by seeing the kids play.
You can see some videos of past shows at:
www.youtube.com/schoolofrockshane

What we are looking for:
Rock musicians!
We are seeking out currently gigging musicians who are familiar with rock. Prior teaching and schooling is helpful.

We would like you to send a resume. We would also like a bio, photo and a link to some music you have done. Applicants that do not send in a resume will not be considered.
You can send this to:
Shane
sbaskerville@schoolofrock.com
I will get back to you in 10 business days.

No phone calls please!
