Piano/ improv/ composition lessons available

posted: November 21, 2009, 08:23 AM

Replyvulturekrane@hotmail.com

Interested in learning to play piano? Know how to read music but want to expand out of strictly sight-reading and into improvisation and pop/jazz chords (or vice-versa)? Or are you ready to start writing musical pieces of your own?

I'm prepared to help. I'm a music student trying to supplement my income. I've studied composition in Chicago and am currently studying music production and keyboard performance at McNally Smith in St. Paul.

I have a cool approach- I teach from a conceptual standpoint. No silly, trivial songs out of a book (Unless you're into that kind of thing), and no scales to practice until we've covered several concepts that will make them seem easy.

If you live near Cottage Grove and am able to travel to my home, my rate is $12 for a half hour. If I need to travel to your home, my rate is $15 per half hour.
Please contact me for more info! Would love to hear from you at:

Seeking Drums For Original R&B Band

posted: November 19, 2009, 01:42 PM

We are seeking drums to join our original r&b band, Sweet Gravitii. We are a 3 piece with vocals, bass, and guitar. Maybe in the future we will add a keyboard player or horn player, but right now this is what it is. As far as what we are looking for in a drummer, we want one that is a jazz / funk drummer as opposed to a rock / funk drummer. New Orleans funk like Meters or Galatic or old R&B like Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Stevie Wonder, etc... Other styles we dig are pop, jazz, funk, reggae, etc. We are all in our 30's. Basically we are a band that practices once a week and gigs like once or twice a month. We have a regular coffee shop gig once a month and we'll likely resume once we get things up and running. We don't make any money do mostly originals and do it for the love of the art. We may throw in a cover here or there, but think cover bands are pretentious and lame. If you are the type of person that is seeking notoriety, accolades, money, or fame then you likely wouldn't fit with us. We don't need no stinking jobbers. If you are a person that gets stoked on the process of contributing to writing a new song from the beginning idea and reworking it until it lands on a CD then this is the band for you. Currently we have 13 - 14 originals in the works and we hope that they'll end up on our next CD, which will be my guitarists and my 3rd release. Recording, gigs, and fun! If this sounds like something that is up your ally we'll talk and set something up. If interested, please respond to this ad for more info with a link to your mp3's and phone number.

Vocalist with Keys wanted for cover band - very casual, fun group in Eden Prairie

posted: November 12, 2009, 06:47 AM

We are a group of 40 somethings, all with professional careers outside of music, and we like to get together 2-3 times a month to play our favorite music. We play out a few times a year- possibly more this winter as we get our set together again after some changes to the line up.

We all appreciate playing the tunes very well, sounding great and having a good time. Playing gigs is very much secondary. If you're like us- all played in bands when we were younger, did the gigging thing and now have real jobs but a desire to pick up the axe now and then, maybe you'd be a good fit. We really want a singer first and foremost- if you have keyboard skills- all the better- it will help us expand our set.

We are 2 guitars, bass and drums and all have pro gear, and a great place to practice. Hit me up if you're interested.

Ideally all members would have vocal ability, songwriting skills, a fair amount of previous live and recording experience, pro gear and financial stability enough to pursue the goal of writing, releasing and touring to support a full length CD.
I am currently looking to audition drummers, vocalists, keyboard players and fill one guitarist position.

Please contact with any questions or to set up a meeting/audition.

School of Rock is looking for guitar and keys instructors

The Paul Green School of Rock is looking for teachers and subs at our St. Paul and Eden Prairie locations.
We are currently interviewing for Guitar and keyboard instructors.

Here’s a little bit about what we do:
We are an after school program that is open Mon-Thursday 3-8:30 and Saturday 10-5p.m.
Each student gets a 45 minute one on one lesson with an instructor for their instrument of choice. The student also gets a 3 hour rehearsal each week for a show that they are picked to be on.

Currently we are running 8 shows:

Advanced Beatles
Arena Rock
80’s Prom
Led Zeppelin
The Rolling Stones
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Funk and Reggae
Classic Guitar Rock

At the end of 4 months of rehearsals the kids will play these shows at a real rock venue in front of hundreds of people.

There are no room rental fees. We find the students for you and you never have to worry about billing. If your student doesn’t show up, you still will get paid for your time. We offer a 2 hour minimum of hours. Meaning, if we only book you one student for 45 minutes, you will get paid for 2 hours.

We have food available for the teachers here also.

This is a very fun environment to work in. You get a big pay off at the end of the 4 months by seeing the kids play.
You can see some videos of past shows at:
www.youtube.com/schoolofrockshane

What we are looking for:
Rock musicians!
We are seeking out currently gigging musicians who are familiar with rock. Prior teaching and schooling is helpful.

We would like you to send a resume. We would also like a bio, photo and a link to some music you have done. Applicants that do not send in a resume will not be considered.
You can send this to:
Shane
sbaskerville@schoolofrock.com
I will get back to you in 10 business days.

No phone calls please!
