Job Description
We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team You will be responsible for performing medical tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Purpose of Job This position is responsible for serving patients by performing a variety of laboratory procedures in accordance with Valley Pain Relief and Wellness Center philosophy, policies and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agencies. Focus areas include: phlebotomy, IV infusion, urinalysis, and LCMS extraction. The main function of the laboratory technician is to collect, organize and test bodily fluids samples from patients, which includes urine and blood.
:Collect and organize blood, tissue, and other bodily fluid samples from patients
:Prepare samples for routine testing and analysis
:Properly record results for further analysis and easy reference
:Monitor inventory samples and supplies
:Maintain a clean work environment
:Work under the supervision of a medical technologist
:Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
:Performs phlebotomy procedures
:Performs EKGs and maintains equipment
:Performs Ultrasounds and maintains equipment
:Performs testing analysis of patient specimens according to procedures defined in each area of the lab including quality control, all testing needed for regulatory needs and competency assessment
:Performs basic troubleshooting techniques and clearly reports issues to the Supervisor or other appropriate personnel
:Collect and process biological specimens with appropriate technique following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
:Perform testing analysis and verify assay/analyzer performance according to SOP in an efficient, cost effective manner. Any combination of the following areas may be included: Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy, Computer Operation, Data Entry and Direct Patient Care
:Document and communicate lab test results thoroughly and accurately according to SOP
:Perform and document maintenance procedures and assist in documentation to maintain adequate supplies
:Demonstrate competency and comply with all regulatory agency policies
:Consistently implement and adhere to the laboratory customer service standards. The standards include maintaining confidentiality, promoting teamwork, successful communication and conflict resolution
:Respond proactively to stressful circumstances, customer needs and department/clinic changes
:Demonstrate professional development through participation in continuing education, special projects and community / corporate / professional organizations. Demonstrate personal development through dependability, professional appearance and cooperative attitude
:Perform other tasks as assigned
:Previous experience as a clinical technician or in other related fields
:Familiarity with common medical terminology
:Experience in a laboratory setting
:Ability to work autonomously and as a team
:Strong organizational skills
:Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
:Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
:Ability to efficiently complete tasks given on a daily and weekly basis
:Ability to communicate for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
:Associates degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician from an accredited school. May also have a certificate if grandfathered according to CLIA88
:Certified or Certification eligible as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology board of registry or equivalent per CLIA standards. Certification must be completed by the first year of employment.
