Position Title: Chief Financial Officer
Supervisor Title: President and General Director

Description
The Chief Financial Officer directs the financial affairs of the organization and prepares financial analyses of operations for the guidance of management. This includes budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting (internal and external), cash management, insurance, tax filing, financial audit, and internal controls. The CFO reports directly to the President and General Director and works in collaboration with the Board and the Leadership team.

Supervision Summary
This position supervises the Staff Accountant, Facilities Manager and System Administrator.

Major Job Accountabilities
• Develop, monitor, and report on all budgets and financial statements; provide financial analysis as needed.
• Complete monthly analysis of results, balance-of-year forecast, risk and opportunities assessments.
• Create and launch new budgeting tool; provide training to budget managers on the budget and forecast process.
• Work closely with all budget managers on understanding their actuals and budgets, providing hands on assistance as needed.
• Manage forecasting, cash-flow projections, and new finance process improvements.
• Develop and improve internal controls.
• Lead completion of external audit and tax filings.
• Present financial results, budgets, and audit reports to the Finance Committee and Board.
• Assist President and General Director in exploring new strategies and revenue streams.
• Support Leadership team in long term financial planning and modeling.
• Oversee all activities of accounting department; assure reports are accurate and timely.
• Perform month end activities (book journal entries, account reconciliations, etc).
• Direct all phases of cash management and bank relations.
• Coordinate all risk management activity.
• Serve as liaison with business partners (Insurer, Investment Firm, Banks, 403(b) Vendor, and Audit Firm).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
• Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting.
• Strong computer skills (excel, Solomon Accounting system, etc)
• Demonstrated knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting and forecasting.
• Strong skills in cash management and cash forecasting.
• Ability to develop and monitor internal controls and accounting systems.
• Technology savvy, with ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency in a fast-moving environment.
• Ability to prioritize, focus and manage projects.
• Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating with a dynamic, diverse team.
• Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems.
• Proven effectiveness leading professionals.
• Flexible self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detailed oriented.
• Ability to create presentations for the Board and Finance Committee; strong presentation skills.
• Affinity with the mission of the Minnesota Opera.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• CPA or CMA strongly preferred
• Experience managing facilities and IT preferred
• 10+ years’ experience in management of accounting and financial reporting
• 10+ years supervisory experience
