Organization Summary:

ACBC Emergency Food Shelf and Clothing Closet was founded in 1971 to serve residents of Anoka County in need of emergency resources. Today we serve over 10,000 families and distribute over 900,000 pounds of food a year.


Primary Duties:

• Using ACBC van, pick up regularly scheduled donated items from retail partners, as well as occasional food drive collections and bring them to ACBC warehouse. Donations need to be loaded into the van and unloaded onto pallets in the warehouse.
• Ensure proper food safety measures are taken in the transport and storage of perishable donated food by using thermometers, freezer blankets, and coolers as recommended by Second Harvest Heartland Partnership Agreements and industry best practices.
• Maintain records of temperatures of donated meat and dairy items upon receipt at retail donation site and again upon delivery to ACBC warehouse.
• Establish and build relationships with retail donation partners by serving as the face of ACBC.
• Weigh donations by retail donor and category and record weights for reporting purposes.
• Manage incoming donations (checks, cash, or goods) by answering warehouse doors, weighing donated items, sorting, checking dates, and providing receipts.
• Oversee volunteers assisting with food rescue
• Ensure cleanliness, safety, and organization of the warehouse facility and store, including sweeping, crushing cardboard, cleaning spills, etc.
• Maintain exterior grounds including parking lot by occasional shoveling and applying salt to walkways.
• Other general support duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma
• Valid driver’s license with no accidents in the past 36 months. Must be able to maintain insurance coverage as approved driver for ACBC Food Shelf.
• Prior food shelf or grocery store experience preferred.

• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting.
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 80 pounds, or willingness to repack donations.
• Work environment of varying temperatures (retail/warehouse/office environments) and frequent exposure to outdoor elements during retail pick-ups. Frequent work in warehouse with shelves and storage equipment.
• The potential for prolonged standing, walking, squatting, and/or bending.
• Frequent use of an electric pallet jack or manual pallet jack (loads of 100+ pounds, up to 1,000 pounds. Frequent use of carts with loads of 100+ pounds.
• Ability to enter the cold case, cooler, and freezer thereby being subjected to cold temperatures for extended periods of time.
• Use of industrial cleaners, ladders, and pallet jacks.
