Job Summary:

This position under general supervision will provide critical connections for Deaf/Blind students and other people and the environment. Open channels of communication will be a strong component established between the child and others, providing access to information and facilitating opportunities for learning and development.

This position is responsible for providing access to visual and auditory information to Deaf/Blind students, participating in student's IEP and following communication plan as described in IEP. Ability to understand sensory functions, communication, learning style and behavior of student and integrate with teacher instruction and other education specialists is a necessity. Capacity to evaluate, modify and implement educational materials that support student needs and progress is important.

Education Required:

Associate's Degree in Education or a closely related field and two years of work experience as a paraprofessional for special needs students or as a personal care assistant. Certificate of Intervener training by the MN Department of Education is required within one year from hire date.

Experience Required:

* Proactive philosophy of intervention and support to students with vision or hearing loss;

* established methods and techniques to assist students in reading, writing and mathematics;

* development of strategies to develop positive interactions with others, student behavior and learning skills, and creation of self-determination and independence;

* familiarity with classroom policies, procedures and processes;

* and effective communication and collaborative skills with colleagues, staff and community.


Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
