:jobdescription:

Bilingual Spanish Preferred

FUNCTION:
Assist licensed staff in Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE). Provides Home Visiting to families with children birth:5, visits focus on parenting and child development. Provides interpretation for non:English speaking, limited English speaking and/or bilingual/bicultural families. Independently implements a variety of student, family, community services and educational programs in support of districts school readiness and cultural diversity goals. Act as a liaison between the students, family, community, and the Early Childhood Education programs (ECFE, Screening and High Five.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
:Completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits, and/or AA degree in the area of Education, Child Development, Child Psychology, Parent Education or area related to position assignment
:Bilingual in Spanish
:Knowledge of and experience with a home visiting model
:Trained as PAT Home Visitor (or willing to be trained upon hire)
:Educational background to be able to assist site staff in the provision of education services
:Knowledge of, and experience with, cultural differences, which may affect non:English speaking children and their parents
:Knowledge of, and experience with, the process of acculturation to American society
:Knowledge of Early Childhood Family Education programs
:The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with parents and young children
:Attend mandatory Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within one year of being hired for the position and maintain a current expiration date on the CPI card by taking Refresher class annually
:Training and experience in the use of computers and other technology equipment
:Ability to work effectively in collaboration with others
:Ability to act in a leadership role and independently initiate and follow through on tasks under minimal supervision
:Strong organizational skills

Desirable:
:Post:secondary coursework in education, child development, parent education or a related area
:Knowledge of the programs and procedures of the Minneapolis Public Schools
:Proven community collaboration in large urban environment
:Computer experience to assist in collaboration with families, schools, and/or community

:Assist teaching staff in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans for children birth:5
:Provide interpretation for non:English speaking families in a class setting
:Provide translation of materials for parents
:Model desired interaction behavior and help parents engage with their young children in activities.
:Work individually and in groups with young children in the classroom to guide them in their exploration and discovery
:Prepare and maintain class materials, equipment and communal areas to ensure a safe, clean and healthy environment
:Share observations of progress and concerns related to the development of childrens strengths and needs
:Participate as an integral part of a teaching team
:Provide home visits focused on parenting strategies and child development
:Assist in program outreach activities as needed
:Meet Districts standards for employee performance in attendance
:Participate in staff development/professional growth activitie
