Functional Area:

Under general supervision, assists MPS staff and school personnel in a variety of school functions and locations aligned with The Standards of Effective Instructional Support for Educational Assistants.
* Assist MPS staff to facilitate educational functions and other services for students, in compliance with Standards of Effective Instructional Support for Educational Assistants.
*Assist teachers in delivering classroom services; assist with attendance, work assignments, clerical duties, behavior management, and classroom preparation and setup.
* Assist students in learning processes through reinforcement of positive behavior, individual instruction, socialization and communication skills.
* Monitor student activities, promote respect, explain social norms and disciplinary consequences, de:escalate personal confrontations, and enforce District policies and rules of conduct.
* Report learning problems, behavioral issues and other concerns to supervisor or Principal.
* Perform a variety of job duties, including crossing guard, kitchen and personal hygiene assistant, personal escort/attendant, library assistant, transportation coordinator, homework review, testing and assessment coordinator, emergency procedures and security services. Clean tables, stack chairs, and rearrange room after the class has ended.
* Maintain and organize files, keep records of student progress and activities.
*Provide customer service to parents and guardians, answers questions, and explains school rules.
Knowledge of
* Classroom policies, procedures and processes.
* Methods and techniques to assist students in reading, writing and mathematics.
* Local community resources and regional community services programs.
* Basic principles of record keeping and records management. Personal computers utilizing standard and specialized software.
* Safety rules and regulations.

AA degree or completion of 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits (required) in Education, Child Development, Behavioral Sciences or educational area related to position assignment AND one year of experience working with children. Associates Degree in Education or Child Development is preferred.

First Aid/CPR/AED and/or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training may be required.

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
